Dacia races to the top of the electric rankings as new car interest continues to rise

  • Visits to Auto Trader’s new car platform have risen 8% month-on-month and 16% year-on-year.
  • Dacia is June’s current ‘hottest’ new electric brand, propelled by the Spring which takes the top spot for most popular EV.
  • The Jaecoo 7 continues its rapid rise in the rankings, climbing from 10th most popular new car overall on Auto Trader to 2nd in four consecutive months.

23rd June 2025 – According to the latest data from Auto Trader, consumer appetite in the new car market remains strong with visits to its new car platform increasing 8% month-on-month (MoM) in June to date, whilst year-on-year (YoY) visits are up 16%.

Retailers are taking advantage of the continued interest among prospective buyers by advertising even more of their new car stock in front of the UK’s biggest audience of engaged car buyers. In June so far, the volume of new cars being advertised on Auto Trader is currently up 2% compared to the same period last month and 11% on last year.

Double victory for Dacia as car buyers enticed by value

There’s a new leader in the electric rankings this month, as Dacia charges to the top of the leaderboard, propelled by the surging demand for its all-electric Spring. In June to date, the Romanian manufacturer, which won the Best Value Brand for the 7th consecutive year at Auto Trader’s Drivers’ Choice Awards last week (full list of winners here), has generated a 9.6% share of all brand-new electric enquiries, up from 3.6% in just four weeks. The Spring is currently the most popular brand-new EV on Auto Trader accounting for one in 10 (9.8%) of all brand-new electric model enquiries.

Dacia is followed closely by BMW in second place (9.5%), whilst Renault is in third (8.9%), boosted by the success of its Renault 5, which is currently the second most popular brand-new EV on Auto Trader (7.4% share leads). The Renault 5 also won the Editor’s Choice category at this year’s Drivers’ Choice Awards, as chosen by Auto Trader’s editorial director, Erin Baker.

Jaecoo 7 closes in on top spot

Based on all fuel-types, the Jaecoo 7 is currently the second ‘hottest’ new car on Auto Trader with a 3% share of all new car enquiries, marking its fourth consecutive appearance on the top 10. Climbing from tenth place in March to seventh in April, third in May, and now second in June, Jaecoo’s compact SUV will be looking to challenge Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport (currently in first with a 4% share) for the top spot in July.

Discounts on electric start to pick up again

The average new car discount across all fuel types made upward movement this month so far with discounts increasing slightly from 8.9% in May to 9.2% in June. Similarly, electric models increased from 10.2% off RRP in May to 10.4% this month following a slight MoM softening between April and May.

“The new car market remains buoyant as we head into the summer months, with healthy levels of consumer interest for brand new cars on our platform. This includes the rapidly expanding electric segment of the market, which is providing car buyers with more choice than ever. Critically we’re seeing more affordable options enter the market, which as reflected in the popularity of the Dacia Spring, is helping make the switch to electric far more accessible for the average car buyer. With more options available and rising discounts helping to further entice buyers, our outlook for the market remains a confident one.”
