Why Are the Ford Capri GXL and Triumph Stag So Popular?

The Ford Capri GXL and Triumph Stag are two of Britain’s most beloved classic cars, revered for their blend of style, performance, and nostalgia. The Ford Capri, often referred to as the ‘European Mustang,’ became a symbol of sporty driving at an accessible price. With its sleek, muscle car-inspired design and agile handling, it captured the hearts of car enthusiasts in the 1970s and continues to reign supreme today. It’s popularity is proven by the fact that new models of the iconic Ford Capri continue to be released today to meets the demands of fans around the globe.

Meanwhile, the Triumph Stag, known for its V8 engine and distinctive styling, has gained a cult following among classic car collectors. Its reputation as a luxurious yet sporty grand tourer has made it a sought-after model for those who appreciate British motoring heritage and timeless designs.

Both cars were featured prominently in the final ‘Grand Tour’ episode, where the hosts explored the lasting appeal and charm of these vintage models. Hammond opted for a 1974 Ford Capri 3-litre, whilst James May had the honour of driving around Zimbabwe in a 1974 Triumph Stag. The show’s massive audience has undoubtedly reignited interest in these classic cars, driving significant spikes in Auto Trader advert views and Google searches.

Classic cars like the Ford Capri and Triumph Stag have always held a special place in the hearts of British car enthusiasts. The latest episode of The Grand Tour has brought these iconic models back into the spotlight, reminding viewers of their timeless appeal and that seeing their favourite fellow petrolheads driving them is part of the appeal. As a result, we’ve seen a huge surge in interest, with both models becoming incredibly popular on our platform in the days following the show’s release, proving that celebrities and popular culture still have a huge impact on our lifestyles, including purchasing a new car.
