Commentary | Free trade agreement with India

It’s a relief to have some good news on trade after a turbulent month following the “Liberation Day” tariffs in the US. Today’s deal on lower car tariffs won’t be an immediate game-changer as India represents just 0.1% of UK car exports. But India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with a fast-growing middle class so in the longer term it could be a bigger market for us. Encouraging free trade rather than erecting barriers is the right direction of travel.
