19 February 25 Press releases

Kia February's front runner as UK's hottest used car

  • Kia Ceed estate and Carens MPV sell the fastest in February, taking just 11 days on average.
  • Half of February’s top ten aged below 12 months old as interest in newer cars heats up.
  • Overall market speed of sale accelerates in February, with used cars selling 10 days faster than January.

February 19th, 2025Auto Trader, the UK’s largest automotive platform, has revealed the hottest used cars in February, with Kia models taking the top two spots. Both the Kia Ceed (petrol, up to a year old) and the Kia Carens (5-10 years old) are currently taking an average of just 11 days to sell, which is significantly faster than the overall market average of 29 days. However, due in part to very robust levels of consumer demand, used cars are selling 10 days more quickly than last month (39 days).

The Kia Ceed wasn’t the only ‘nearly new’ used car to make it onto this month’s top ten list. In fact, half are aged below 12 months old, including the petrol hybrid version of the CUPRA Leon, and the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE, both of which are currently taking 14 days to sell. As with the wider market, cars of this age-cohort are selling 10 days faster than they were in January (32 days vs 42).

This acceleration in the market following the traditional seasonal slowdown is consistent across other age groups too, including used cars aged 1–3-years-old (31 days vs 43), as well as those aged between 3-5-years (27 vs 39), which is the fastest selling segment.

As always, Auto Trader’s data reveals a nuanced used car market. Indeed, at the opposite end of the scale, cars aged between 10-15 years are lingering on forecourts longer than any other segment of the used car market, taking around 39 days, which is one day slower than in January (38).

In terms of fuel types, used electric cars remain in pole position, selling in 29 days, slightly ahead of petrol in second place at 30 days. In parallel with the overall used car market, both petrol and electric cars are selling eight days faster than in January1.

The speed in which used cars are selling is a good barometer of the underlying health of the used car market, and as we fast approach the end of the first quarter of 2025, it’s clear the seasonal slowdown is being left in the rear-view mirror.

“The Ceed has been a staple of our fastest selling used car lists over the last few years, and it’s not a surprise; it offers great styling and family practicality, and of course Kia’s industry leading seven-year warranty. Car buyers are still attracted by great value and peace of mind, and the fact the Ceed exceeded the current national average by around two weeks, really highlights just how popular it is amongst car buyers.”
