Auto Trader helps retailers adapt to new retail landscape with launch of home delivery option
Retailers can now deliver direct to car buyers’ homes via Auto Trader Vehicle Moves
18th June 2020 – London: As part of its commitment to support retailers as they adapt to a new retail landscape, Auto Trader, the UK’s largest marketplace for new and used cars, has introduced a new home delivery option as part of its Auto Trader Vehicle Moves platform.
The new feature comes at a time when Auto Trader’s latest consumer research highlighted that whilst showrooms in England and Northern Ireland have reopened, a third (37%) of car buyers would be unlikely or very unlikely to visit in person. However, the same research revealed 36% would feel more comfortable completing an off-site transaction (on the phone or online) with a home delivery service.
Available to access for free[1] via their Portal account, Auto Trader customers can list any of their logistics requirements, including directly to or from their customers’ homes. Based on a reverse auction model, jobs are bid on by a network of over 300 trusted suppliers, with c. 600 vehicle transporters, and c.1,600 drivers, making Auto Trader Vehicle Moves the UK’s largest logistics marketplace. At a time when profit margins are more important than ever, retailers can save an average of £31[2] per vehicle move. In 2019, retailers saved over £4 million[3].
Ed Hummel, Auto Trader Director, said: “We know our customers are facing a very different retail landscape to the one they’re used to, and with it a host of unique challenges. To return to profit, retailers need to be able to adapt quickly to changing consumer expectations, and whilst demand remains incredibly strong, many car buyers are anxious to visit a dealership in person. The introduction of a B2C option in Vehicle Moves enables all retailers, regardless of size, a cost effective and convenient way to offer a home delivery option for a significant customer base which at a time of such uncertainty, very few can afford to lose.”
To list a move, existing customers simply need to click the ‘Moving’ tab at the top of their Auto Trader Portal then follow the simple on-screen instructions. For more information, visit https://trade.autotrader.co.uk/products/vehicle-moves
