Auto Trader's Technology and Sustainability Excellence Recognised at The Car Finance Awards 2022

Auto Trader, the UK’s largest automotive marketplace, is celebrating after winning two-fold at the Car Finance Awards in the categories of Best Use of Technology and the Company Award for Sustainability.

During the ceremony, which took place on 19th May, Auto Trader picked up its first award of the evening, for the Best Use of Technology for its AutoConvert system; a finance, insurance and compliance platform, which it acquired in 2020. Taking first place amongst eight other finalists, judges were impressed by AutoConvert’s capability to significantly improve efficiencies of manual tasks whilst also giving customers one simple location where they can manage leads and applications, as well as report on performance across different locations or lenders.

Whilst multi-lender proposal solutions are nothing new, what stood out for the judges, was AutoConvert’s unique ability to build fully automated bespoke sales processes and customer journeys, from lead source right through to completion.

Among the shortlist of five companies vying for the Company Award for Sustainability, it was Auto Trader's company-wide commitment to sustainability and its impressive ESG ambitions which stood out for this year's independent judging panel. Of particular note, was Auto Trader’s work with the Carbon Literacy Project to fund and develop the automotive industry's first ever Carbon Literacy Toolkit. Auto Trader is the first FTSE 100 company to become Carbon Literate, and as of April 2022, over 50% of its workforce has been Carbon Literate accredited, something which the judges called out as a “fantastic achievement.”

The motivation behind the Toolkit’s development, which was designed in close collaboration with a number of major retailers and manufacturers, was to support other businesses and individuals across the industry in their own journey towards reducing their carbon footprint.

Commenting on the award wins, Fiona Mackay, Head of Motor Finance and Leasing at Auto Trader said: “We are delighted to have been recognised as winners in not one, but two award categories, both of which mean a great deal for us.

“Our AutoConvert product has enabled our customers to link all their lead sources into the platform via our API technology, and then create single or multiple automated sales strategies to assist with efficiencies, profitability and compliance, all the while providing a seamlessly quick and professional journey for both the user and their customer. As AutoConvert continues to grow, it’s incredibly rewarding to hear such positive feedback from the judges.

Fiona added: “Sustainability is such an important part of our broader ESG ambitions and is a shared passion amongst all of our colleagues at Auto Trader. We’re especially thrilled that the hard work and dedication of the Auto Trader team that devised and created the Toolkit with the Carbon Literacy Project has been recognised by the judges; it’s a great testament to the shared commitment of all our people to meet our Net Zero targets. “

Judges’ comments on the award wins:

  • Best Use of Technology: The judges said AutoConvert has established themselves as a true player in the sector, and their feedback from large and impressive dealerships speaks volumes. Particular commendation was given to technical innovation, as they implemented customer communication plans and rules to auto-manage proposal placement.
  • Company Award for Sustainability: It is a fantastic achievement to be the first FTSE 100 company to become carbon literate, according to the judges. They were also impressed at Auto Trader’s commitment to becoming Net Zero, and its development of the Automotive Carbon Literacy Toolkit which is available to anyone in the industry.
