Press release

Sales Leadership changes at AutoTrader

Sharon Randall is to step down as Auto Trader’s Sales Director in April, but will continue working with the business on a part-time basis supporting the senior leadership team.

Le Etta Pearce, Sales Director, and Darren Moon, Sales Director, are to replace Randall and will join the Company’s Operational Leadership Team, taking joint responsibility for the overall satisfaction, growth and value delivery for vehicle retailers in the UK.

Randall has been with Auto Trader, the UK’s largest digital automotive marketplace, for over 17 years where she has held a number of senior leadership positions. She joined Auto Trader in 1999 as General Manager for the North London print division, she then moved into a Regional Managing Director position in the South East, moving to Digital in 2009 before she became the Group’s UK Sales Director in 2013.

As the Group’s UK Sales Director, Randall was tasked with leading the Commercial Sales Team, which is in excess of 300 people, to help shape and drive the future of the automotive industry. Her efforts have been directed towards strengthening the customer relationships as well as developing and evolving the sales force capability.  She has decided to work part-time so she can spend more time with her young family. She will however remain an integral part of the senior leadership team.

Randall’s successors Pearce and Moon have a wealth of automotive experience, Le Etta joined Auto Trader in 2014 having worked for automotive companies for the last seventeen years and Darren has been working in multiple sales and commercial leadership roles in Auto Trader for nine years in addition to his previous experience in publishing businesses.

Sharon Randall, said: “It’s been a wonderful 17 years at Auto Trader and it has been a privilege to work in the UK Automotive Industry during a time of such significant change. Being part of Auto Trader throughout the transition from a print to an entirely digital business was a fantastic experience. Supporting and guiding our customers on the digital journey has been very exciting and I know the team will continue to do this. I’ll still be involved with the business, but I am also looking forward to spending more time with my family.

“I am delighted to hand over the leadership baton to Le Etta and Darren, as we remained committed to building world class relationships with all our customers by helping them evolve through the ever changing digital automotive landscape.”

Auto Trader’s CEO, Trevor Mather, said: “It is impossible to describe in a few words the huge impact Sharon has had on Auto Trader during her time here. It has been 17 years of continuous change, business growth, and countless customer opportunities as well as challenges. Given the roles Sharon has played, she has been right in the middle of all that and very much enabled Auto Trader overall and especially our sales force to become what we are today. She has created an excellent foundation that I’m confident Le Etta and Darren can build on even further.”

Le Etta and Darren will be focused on managing the on-going improvement of the customer facing parts of the business including, as Auto Trader’s CEO Trevor Mather announced in December, the removal of any sales commission payments. The teams will have more of a business advisory role with customers, where they will be focused on ensuring customers are getting the most out of current products as well as helping them win in today’s digital marketplace.

About Auto Trader:

Auto Trader Group plc is a 100% digital business having successfully completed the transition from a print title in 2013. Auto Trader sits at the heart of the UK’s vehicle buying process and operates the UK’s largest digital automotive marketplace.

Auto Trader’s primary activity is to help vehicle retailers compete effectively on the Marketplace in order to sell more vehicles, faster. The Marketplace brings together the largest and most engaged consumer audience. Autotrader.co.uk attracts around 44.5 million monthly cross-platform visits on its sites, with around 68% of visits coming through mobile devices, with the largest pool of vehicle sellers (listing more than 400,000 cars each day). In fact over 80% of all time spent on classified sites is spent on Auto Trader. The Group does not buy or sell any vehicles itself.

Auto Trader has around 92% prompted brand awareness in the UK, with 80% of UK retailer forecourts advertising via the website and around 65% of UK used car transactions involving cars listed on autotrader.co.uk.

Auto Trader’s market-leading position enables it to generate and collect large amounts of data on the UK’s automotive marketplace and leverage it to create a suite of services that allow retailers to:

  • BUY – buy the right vehicles, at the right price
  • MARKET – market their brands and businesses effectively in the digital world
  • SELL- sell more vehicles through advertising on the UK’s largest digital automotive marketplace
  • MANAGE – optimise their stock turn and vehicle margin.
