Welcoming young electric sceptics to Manchester HQ
Auto Trader hosted a group of students from University Technical College Media City this week, to help them learn more about electric vehicles (EV) as part of a student editors edition of BBC Radio 4’s flagship consumer affairs programme, You & Yours. The young electric sceptics wanted to discover why their generation should care about EVs, and whether they really are worthy of the current media hype.
Auto Trader’s YouTube Director, and former Top Gear presenter, Rory Reid, was more than happy to help, and to discuss with the budding reporters why EVs are an important step forward for the automotive industry, and why young drivers like themselves should be excited to own one.
As well as letting them get behind the wheel of a (stationary) all-electric Porsche Taycan, Rory gave the five students and the college’s vice principal, Sharon Cross, a tour around Auto Trader’s Manchester headquarters, before sitting down with them in the Auto Trader studio to answer all of their electric related questions.
The interview was recorded by the BBC’s production team, and featured on the You & Yours Student Editors Special, which was aired on the 2nd January. It can be listened to here.
Commenting on the tour, Auto Trader’s YouTube Director, Rory Reid, said: “It was such a pleasure to meet all of the students and help them get more of an understanding of electric cars. They weren’t just enthusiastic, but they were also incredibly well informed and very prepared for our interview, covering all aspects of car ownership. Manchester is very much at the heart of our business, and a big part of our culture, so it was a real privilege to meet local students and help in their studies.”
