Self-nomination entries are now open for the 2020 Auto Trader Retailer Awards, which marks 13 years of celebrating the very best in automotive retail. The annual Awards recognises those brands and individuals that are pushing the industry forward, leading from the front and inspiring their peers, which in today’s current retail landscape is more important than ever to celebrate.
With a record 64.4 million cross platform visits in July, Auto Trader is the UK’s largest digital automotive marketplace for new and used cars, and with a 40-year heritage, is among the best-known consumer brands in the country. It is also the most trusted automotive classified site, making recognition at this year’s Retailer Awards an extremely effective way for retailers to build instant confidence in their business.
As a result of COVID-19, to ensure the safety of customers and colleagues, this year’s Awards will be conducted completely digitally. Retailers will be able to tune in to the broadcast on 23rd October to first hear the latest market insights, before the awards ceremony itself to discover who’s won one of this year’s seven prestigious award categories.

This year’s exciting self-nomination categories will be judged by an independent panel of experts, including senior executives from Google and Rightmove, as well as global advertising agency, The Specialist Works, and automotive recruitment specialists, Ennis & Co. The judges will take into consideration how businesses have met challenges that the global health pandemic has created.
- The Business Initiative of the Year is designed to showcase an exceptional project, campaign or strategy that met an operational challenge or a business objective e.g. a marketing campaign to attract new customers; a data management system to increase forecourt efficiencies; or significant steps to adapt your business to respond to COVID-19.
- In the People and Culture category, judges will be looking for a business that places as much focus and commitment on their colleagues and their working environment as they do their customers. Whether it’s a new reward and recognition initiative; a learning and development programme; a diversity and inclusion strategy; or evidence of how your business successfully managed your colleagues in response to COVID-19, if your business prioritises your people, the judges want to hear about it.

The remaining categories - Retailer of the Year Award, Digital Excellence Award, Customer Experience Award, Customer Choice Award, and Rising Star Award - will see all of Auto Trader’s 13,300 retail customers entered automatically, with the winners determined either by the opinions of thousands of car buyers, from an in-depth analysis of millions of data points, or a comprehensive mystery shopping programme.
